| The Baptism of Christ, by Giotto di Bondone (c. 1270 – January 8, 1337), know as Giotto. He worked during the Gothic or Proto-Renaissance period. The Baptism of Christ is part of his most famous work, the "decoration of the Scrovegni Chapel, in Padua, also known as the Arena Chapel, finished about 1305. The fresco cycle depicts the Life of the Virgin and the Life of Christ." It is one of the masterpieces of the Early Renaissance. The 2017/2018 Christmas season ends at Second Vespers of the BAPTISM OF THE LORD on Monday, January 8, 2018, the 681st anniversary of Gitto's death. |
